This is an activity report for an FTG grant I received to incorporate the use of WebEx, a desktop sharing program, into my teaching of two doctoral-level quantitative research courses (EDAD 606 & 640).
I am very happy to report that the use of WebEx was a GREAT (!!) success, and that students and other faculty members in my program are now actively using it. For example, students are now using WebEx on their own for comprehensive exam study groups or for small-group research project meetings. Faculty are using it in their teaching and tutoring as well as recruitment (information session and admission interviews). The program purchased a WebEx account after mine (which was sponsored by FTG) had expired, and we are hoping that the College will consider purchasing a corporate account next year.
The following is a link to a "product" I created using WebEx. It is a short (12 min) video clip that shows how to conduct a certain procedure in SPSS, a statistical software.

I have shared my use of WebEx with the college community at an FTG-sponsored event on April 7, 2011, and I will be presenting again at the Faculty Tech Camp on May 26, 2011.
Thank you again for your support of this project!

Original FTG Grant Application
I plan to use WebEx in two doctoral-level quantitative research courses,
EDAD 606 and 640. There are three specific ways I plan to use WebEx in
these courses:
1) Small Group Online Tutoring Sessions - Several students in these
courses will need extra support with the course material. Given that my
students are working professionals, having the capability to offer an
online tutoring session through a desktop sharing program will
facilitate the scheduling and offering of small group tutoring sessions.
2) Creating Video Tutorials - Students will be learning to use a
statistical software, SPSS, in these courses. Having access to WebEx
during SPSS demonstrations in class will allow me to create video
tutorials as I teach the class. Students will be able to review the SPSS
demonstrations as often as they wish by viewing the video snippets from
home.
3) Small Group Project Meetings - Students will be involved in an
evaluation research at a community-based organization in these courses.
Students will be working on this project in small groups, and having
access to a telephone conferencing and desktop sharing program will help
them to "meet" online and discuss the project outside of class.
